FAQ - What are skills?

Skills allow you to customize your combat experience with various special abilities. Some skills have active effects, whereupon you click a skill at the bottom of the screen to activate it, then click on an enemy to use it on that enemy. Using an active skill will consume some amount of Mana (mouse over a skill to see how much); if you do not have enough Mana, you won't be able to use that skill. Mana can be replenished by consuming food, drinking a potion, or regenerate some Mana over time if your equipment has the Mana Regeneration stat.

Regardless of your Mana total, all active skills must "cool down" before they can be used again. Unusable active skills will be grayed out.

Other skills are passive, which "buff" a particular stat at all times and do not consume Mana.

Every time you level up, you receive 1 skill point. (You can also purchase skill points using Gems.) You unlock new tiers of skills at level 5, 8, 12, 15, 20, and 25. New skills can be learned or previously learned skills upgraded for 1 skill point. Each skill can be upgraded 10 times with skill points. You can view the upgrade effects of any learned skill -- along with its current attributes -- by mousing over it in the skills menu.

Any active skill must be assigned to the Action Bar before it can be used in combat. You can have 5 active skills assigned at any one time. To assign an active skill, click the arrow above any skill slot in your Action Bar and select your desired skill from the pop-up menu. You can also activate a skill by pressing the hotkey assigned to it (1, 2, 3, 4, or 5).

If you'd like to reset all of your skill points and experiment with different configurations, you can do so by clicking "Reset Skills" and paying the specified gold cost.
